Liz Wiley Artist Statement

Liz Wiley is a professional artist mostly known for her equestrian paintings.  She was born in Abilene Texas, where her love of horses and nature started.  Her work explores different tools and techniques while focusing on color and expressive graphic lines. She loves sharing her love for art with others.  She studied fine art at the University of Texas at Arlington.  She now lives in Dallas and works full time as artist.

“I create paintings using inspiration from the ordinary experiences in my daily life. Inspiration can be found anywhere.  A whole series can be created with simply seeing a butterfly flutter by.

My style is loose and free.  Soft backgrounds are created with layers of thick and thin layers of acrylic paint using unconventional tools. This layering technique involves leaving previous layers exposed and letting the underneath show through.  The thick texture adds dimension and raises the subject off the background.  I simplify my subject and often leave areas unpainted or left out.  A common thread in my work involves graphic sketched lines that create movement and define areas.

Small details changes that I have been honing and evolving over the years can be tracked through my work. It tells a timeline story of how my work and I have evolved. This evolution is important to my growth as an artist and the self-mastery of becoming me.”

Her work has been featured in Crate & Barrel catalogs and in articles in Horse and Style Magazine, The Chronicle of the Horse Magazine, Heels Down Magazine, EtsyDallas, Maryland Equestrian, and Paard Verzameld, Voyage Dallas Magazine, Saddle Seeks Horse, Bozzuto Green Art Gallery, Tate Studio, Neiman Marcus Dallas Pure Beauty Spa, Craighead Green Gallery, The Center for Contemporary Arts Breed Gallery, and The Addison Art Gallery at Addison Conference Center.

Art organizations that Liz belongs are, Artists on Monroe, Etsy Dallas, North Dallas Artist Studio Tour, Dallas Art Ladies.

Wiley, who credits her mother for her love of horses, is now passing that love onto her two children who are fascinated with everything equestrian.
