Mary Veiga

Award winning artist, Mary Veiga is best known for her richly textured landscape paintings. In her distinctive style, she creates a “feeling” of the light, the air, the atmosphere and grasses, tapping into all of the senses.

Growing up on beautiful farmland, Mary naturally draws inspiration from nature and rural scenery. Spending time riding her horse through through the striking abundance of Maryland’s landscape instilled in her a strong spiritual sense of attachment and belonging. This inspired her to share her experience through natural artistic expression. Her initial drawings and paintings focused on her horse and expanded to include a vibrant context of surrounding fields and trees. This work brought high recognition and awards from an early age.

Mary pursued her passion with training in fine art at The Maryland Institute College of Art in her hometown of Baltimore, Maryland, along with acclaimed landscape artists David Buckley Good, John Brandon Sills, and colorist Camille Przwodek. Her early influences, including Edward Hopper, Robert Henri, and William Merrit Chase, remain evident in her work to this day.

Mary’s work has been featured in many media outlets, including Good Housekeeping Magazine, Chesapeake Home and Living, The Tidewater Times, HGTV, WJZ – Channel 13, The Baltimore Sun Newspaper, Baltimore’s Child, and more. More recently her work has received awards including 2017 A.M. Gravely St Michael's Art League exhibit Honorable Mention; 2018 Chesapeake College Working Artists Forum exhibit Honorable Mention; and 2018 A.M. Graveley Working Artists Forum show "People's Choice Award."

Today, Mary teaches fine art and painting at The Mitchell School of Fine Art in Baltimore, Maryland and continues painting in her studios there and in Tilghman Island, Maryland. She is a juried member of The Working Artists Forum as well as the St. Michael’s Art League. Participating in juried shows and competitions annually including the St. Michael’s Banner Program. www.maryveigastudio.com
