Mary Beth Marsden

Throwing myself into the art is truly feeding my soul. In TV and radio you are always hyper-aware of the clock. Now… I lose all sense of time when I’m working on a piece.  It’s so immersive and challenging in the best sense.  I find it exhilarating to experiment with the medium and intuitively paint, mark, spray or splatter to create an image. I even enjoy painting over a piece that’s “not working”, only to love the finished product more because of what’s underneath.

Biography: Mary Beth is probably best known for her broadcasting career, during which she was the long-time evening news anchor for WMAR-TV, followed by several years as the afternoon news host at WBAL radio.

Mary Beth started painting when she was 12 years old and studied privately with artists in the Washington, D.C. area and at the former Corcoran Art Gallery. After leaving her “full-time” news jobs, Mary Beth found her love of painting again.

Mary Beth has exhibited her abstracts, flowers, and figurative landscapes at several gallery spaces in the Baltimore area and has been hired for private and corporate projects.

She and her husband, Mark, have three children… one of whom has an autism spectrum disorder. Mary Beth, who actively promotes “autism awareness”, has produced videos that help children with autism under the title: “Real Look Autism”.  She also co-authored “Chicken Soup for the Soul- Raising Kids on the Spectrum”.
